2022 Volkswagen Atlas vs. 2022 Kia Telluride

Overview

Are you looking for an SUV that's perfect for work and play? If so, you have endless options to choose from. For example, there's the 2022 Volkswagen Atlas and the 2022 Kia Telluride. While the Telluride seems like a worthy competitor of the Atlas, the Atlas comes out on top compared to its Kia counterpart. Let's take a closer look.

Power and Performance

The Telluride comes equipped with a 3.8-liter V-8 engine capable of producing 291 horsepower and 262 pound-feet of torque. While the Atlas comes standard with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that puts out 235 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque, Volkswagen offers a more robust V-6. With the 3.6-liter V-6 under its hood, the Atlas has an output of 276 horsepower and 266 pound-feet of torque.

The Atlas' towing capacity maxes out at 5,000 pounds, the same as the Telluride. However, the Atlas provides a less sluggish ride and a 1,495-pound maximum payload with more torque. The Telluride's payload maxes out at 1,257 pounds. If you're looking to spend less money and time at the fuel pump, keep in mind that the Atlas has automatic start/stop technology that shuts the engine off when pulling up to a stop sign or red light, conserving fuel. Unfortunately, the Telluride doesn't have an engine start/stop system.

Interior Features

While the Telluride seats seven, the Atlas is available as a seven-seater or eight-seater SUV. Both Atlas seating configurations give you plenty of room for people and cargo. In fact, the Atlas provides a maximum cargo space measuring 96.8 cubic feet, while Telluride maximum cargo space measures 87 cubic feet.

The Atlas' interior isn't just more spacious than the Telluride's and more luxurious. Features like dual touch screen displays and a beautifully designed infotainment system give it a sleeker, more futuristic look, while its ergonomic cabin makes the Atlas more comfortable. The Telluride's cabin is boxy and old-fashioned compared to the Atlas' cabin.

Safety Features

Driving confidently makes every drive more enjoyable, which is why the Atlas gives you many innovative safety features. These include maneuver braking, which uses rear sensors that monitor and apply the brakes to prevent rear collisions. Unfortunately, the Telluride doesn't offer a braking system that can prevent rear collisions. Another feature that you won't find in the Telluride is the hill descent assist. In the Atlas, this feature allows a safer, more controlled descent down steep streets and trails.

After contrasting the 2022 Volkswagen Atlas with the 2022 Kia Telluride, it's easy to see that the Atlas is the better buy. Test drive the Atlas, and you'll realize that it should be your next SUV.
